Jaws 50th Anniversary

Martha’s Vineyard

jaws, extra, 50th anniversary

We bumped into Greg Dole was an extra in the film

Spielberg has stated he’s was traumatized during the production of the film which went months over budget and schedule. At just 27 years old, he thought he would never direct another film again. No wonder why he’s never attended any Jaws events.

My family took the trek from Long Island to Martha's Vineyard for the Jaws 50th weekend celebration. We got to see all the shooting locations, toured with Jeffrey Voorhees (the young boy eaten on the raft), visited the Orca replica built by Michael Sterling, and met various crew from the production. On the last night, by chance, we stopped by the Orca one last time and saw Richard Dreyfuss singing on it.

After he stepped off, he had a nice conversation with my dad, who's loved Jaws since he was a kid.

Truly an epic weekend!

“Joe Alves was also in attendance. He worked with the legendary Bob Mattey (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) on the shark, also known as Bruce, which was famous for constantly breaking down.

Surprisingly, Greg Nicotero who’s the makeup artist for the walking dead showed up. He owns several original props from the movie and it was great talking with him. I shared my Walking Dead fan film with him which was truly awesome.
